Cross Clonmel – Cyclo-cross National Series Round 2

The Cyclo-cross season is in full swing with all roads heading to Clonmel for the second round of the Cyclo-cross National Series for an exciting weekend of action this Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October.

Hosted by us at Clonmel CC with our colleagues in Slievenamon CC and Vergesport Cross Clonmel, the event is now part of the Cyclo-cross National Series, with both UCI points as well as National Series ranking points (Cycling Ireland licence holders only) on offer for those in action during a bumper weekend of racing. Several international riders from USA, Canada, Belgium, Portugal, UK will make the trip to Co. Tipperary in search of the crucial UCI points. The final number of entries over the two days is 364!

This year, we have a new course layout that includes lots of new challenges for the riders. We will also have stands from Giant Bikes with demo E-Bikes and we will give away two Giant bikes over the weekend – thanks to The Cycologist Clonmel. Coffee & Pizza outlets will be there to keep spectators & cyclists happy throughout the weekend.

Join us on our Sunday Club Spin

While we wait another few weeks for the opening of the ‘Sports Hub’ we continue to meet in Tesco car park @9am for both 50km & 100km group cycles. The 50km group pace averages 22-24km per hour while the 100km an average of 24-27km. We are a non competitive cycling club with an emphasis on getting out on our bikes in a safe & sociable environment. We have members with a wealth of cycling knowledge & a love of the sport who are always willing to share their wisdom & expertise. We are lucky to have a variety of safe & scenic routes to choose from each week. All are welcome to come join us for 3 spins before committing to join the club.

Here’s some FAQ’s to inform you about the event.

🚴🏻 How much is it?
It’s free of charge.
(As a trade off, we will ask for assistance in maintaining the courses during the hour. Feel free to pick up beanbags, limbo poles, tent pegs, fix ramps, hand out water etc.)

🚴🏻 How do I register?
Register on the evening. A simple, traditional sign in sheet.

🚴🏻 Do I need my own bike?
Yes, a mountain bike is the best option for the terrain.

🚴🏻 Do I need a helmet?
Yes – it must be the correct size.

🚴🏻 Can I use a bike with stabilisers?
Unfortunately, the ground is too uneven to allow for stabilisers. It’s suitable for balance bikes.

🚴🏻 What if I don’t like ramps, do I have to do that part?
Absolutely not, the course is set in a way that allows you to go beside the ramps if you prefer.

🚴🏻 I can already cycle and I don’t need to learn how to do any tricks, will I be bored?
Not at all, if you’re comfortable to do some demonstrations for the less experienced that would be so helpful.

🚴🏻 Is it just cycling?
The main aim is to develop skills on a bike, but there are opportunities to get off the bike to complete other challenges if you’d prefer to change it up.

🚴🏻 What ages will be there?
In the younger group it will include up to about age 8, and the more advanced group will depend on how you feel about distance, most years age 8-16 – the course is a bit longer. It’s encouraged to try the more technical course but absolutely zero pressure on anyone to do something they’re not comfortable trying.
